Hey Babes!
You know I just love the color PINK!I tried out the Tulip Color Crafts new and brighter fabric dye for this Ikea couch cover dupe, and it worked so well. This DIY was so incredibly fabulous and easy to do.... I kind of want to do my curtains now!
Why you might want to cover that couch, babes
Why have a couch when you're just going to cover it? Well, let me tell you what — this isn't your grandma's plastic couch cover. There are a bunch of reasons why a couch cover like this one is amazing to have! Let me tell you...
Do you have kids? Me too. I feel like I don't need to explain this any further (because all the moms are like, "Oh yea, I got it,") but for those of you that don't know, kids are well...they are gross. Granola bars, those impossible-to-open-without-spilling-the-juice-inside-fruit cups, milk, baby teething crackers...pretty much anything and everything they eat is MESSY. And a couch cover like this will help keep your actual couch CLEAN so that when they do learn to keep food IN their mouths, your couch will still look brand new.
You can match your decor. Say you have a couch that is still perfectly good and amazingly comfortable, but it just doesn't go with your whole vibe (after all, do you know how HARD it is to find a bright pink couch?!). Get a couch cover, dye it with Tulip in your I'm loving this right now color, and vibe on out.
You can change it whenever you want. Tired of your so last season color? This couch cover dupe is so cheap that you can change the color of your couch any time you want. Heck, you could even change it with the seasons and holidays (and now I have a new idea....!).
You can create the couch that YOU love. If you're like me, you are a maximalist. You love color and brightness and texture and everything. With this Ikea couch cover dupe, you can have a couch in the color that YOU love without spending a fortune on a custom couch.
You're saving the environment. Wait, what? That's right. This simple couch cover can help you save money and the environment. How? Well, if you need a couch on the cheap, head to your local thrift shop, get a used couch, and upcycle that bad boy! This way you get something YOU love AND this non-biodegradable piece of furniture doesn't end up in a landfill.
So now that I have throughly convinced you to go for this amazing Ikea couch cover dupe, it's time to get creating.
What you need for the Ikea Couch Cover dupe
You don't need much for this Ikea couch cover dupe. And you definitely don't have to use pink! Any fabric dye in the Tulip family will work amazingly well because their dye is brighter and much, much stronger giving you a vibrant amazing color no matter which option you choose.
Of course, you're going to need a couch cover. I love this one I scored from Amazon. It is 100% cotton which really helps the dye to soak into each fabric fiber. I really only recommend getting 100% cotton rather than a blend to ensure you get the best possible results.

How I upscaled the couch cover:
Ok, now that we have everything lets get to dyeing!
First I did a pre-soak of my fabric in water.
After you have pre-soaked your fabric you will need to fill your sink (or water container you are using to dye your fabric in) with steaming water (and a nice mini facial) and 1/4 cup salt per gallon.
Once you have your sink or container filled with your saltwater concoction add one packet of Tulip fabric dye per gallon (I used 1 packet of bright pink and 2 of Tulip)
Next comes the fun part...
Submerge your fabric and stir constantly for 15 minutes.
Then,
Occasionally stir for another 45 minutes.
Once you have had a nice little arm workout, rinse in cold water and wash in warm water and dry out of direct sunlight.
Once your couch cover is completely and put on your couch you now have an upscaled, beautiful, new couch. This cover definitely elevates the room, and my minis and I sure do love it!
Talk soon, babes!
